Google goes after over-optimized websites →
Looks like Matt Cutts has announced that if you’re website is TOO optimized, you could be penalized in Google’s SERPS. Combine this with the recent announcements that Google’s future in search is Semantic based, and the SEO industry looks to soon be a rapidly dying one.

What will live be in 500 years?
Here’s my theory of what life will be 500 years into the future:
We will all speak a hybrid of English, Chinese and Spanish.
People will all become a dark beige in skin colour from increased global movement and breeding.
The internet or whatever they call it in the future will become so a part of every humans life that you will not be able to live without it (we’re not too far...

Microsoft to buy RIM?
After seeing their massive drop in stock today, my prediction is that less than a year from now Microsoft will buy RIM. It makes perfect sense, they can compete directly with Apple on the consumer side, while dominating the enterprise sector, which they already do with their server products.
On top of it, if they bought out RIM, they would have instant access to a tablet device, something...

Winnipeg Jets
WOOHOO! The Jets are coming back to Winnipeg! Seems that since the league was being all sketchy and protective about Phoenix the future owners of the Jets went to Atlanta instead.
My guess is that since Phoenix won’t be staying in Arizona long term they’ll eventually end up in Hamilton. One new team in Canada is fantastic news, but if we end up with TWO new teams in the future, that...
Microsoft buys Skype...
So the rumors were all true, Skype was looking for a buyer and Microsoft outbid Google. Outbid is an understatement, as Google it seems only wanted to pay $4B for the company, and Steve Balmer went crazy as per usual and added on an extra $4.5B for a whopping $8.5 BILLION FREIKING DOLLARS! Insane I know…
Technologically speaking, Microsoft acquiring Skype makes perfect sense, they can tie...

death of the synthesizer?
One more reason for people to by the iPad, you can now use it as a virtual synthesizer: “iElectribe offers up 64 pre-set patterns ranging in genre from House to Hardcore, which allow the user to get up and going without having to create anything from scratch. The application also has 32 templates in a similarly large range of genres; this gives a basic framework which, with a little...

Found a great article about the effect from Google displaying a playable Pac-Man game on their homepage: “Google’s playable Pac-Mac doodle has collectively consumed about 4.8 million hours of our time since its Friday release, according to a new report. Assuming the average player earned about $25 per hour, that is a financial loss of about $120 million, according to a blog post...

the cloud is the future
If I were to start up a small to medium sized company, I don’t see any point in having IT staff, a rack of servers, expensive gear, etc. Cloud based computing in my opinion is the future, it’s cheap, it’s WAY more reliable, and even greener. Some of these solutions will even work for large organizations. Why pay for expensive servers and staff or IT contractors that charge...

stop using IE 6!!!!
Join the campaign, stop using IE6, the scourge of the internet: stopie6.org Internet Explorer 6 is probably one of the biggest problems for web developers and overall progression of the world wide web. This browser was released in 2001 and has been replaced by Microsoft twice now (IE 7 & 8). I know that a lot of large companies have legacy applications that were built for IE6, but if...

A serious flaw(once again) was found in Internet Explorer. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7784908.stm Quotes from the page: “The flaw in Microsoft’s Internet Explorer could allow criminals to take control of people’s computers and steal their passwords, internet experts say.” “As many as 10,000 websites have been compromised since the vulnerability was...

25 ways to tell that you've grown up
1. Your houseplants are alive, and you can’t smoke any of them. 2. Having sex in a twin bed is out of the question. 3. You keep more food than beer in the fridge. 4. 6:00 AM is when you get up, not when you go to bed. 5. You hear your favorite song in an elevator. 6. You watch the Weather Channel. 7. Your friends marry and divorce instead of “hook up” and “break up.”...

a greener less spammy earth
So earth hour has come and gone, and after the stats were run, the countries/regions that participated seemed to save A LOT of power, simply by turning off their lights for one hour. Imagine if everybody turned off their computers at both home and the office at night, every night. The power savings would probably dwarf earth hour. I know TONS of people who pretty much leave their computer ...

oil reaches $100 a barrel
Today oil (light sweet crude) rose $4.02 to $100 a barrel in New York, prompting a drop in shares and a surge in gold prices. This is the first time in history that a barrel of oil is in the triple digits. Why did this happen? It’s a combination of low volumes of production combined with war in Nigeria and allot of speculative trading. I personally think that this is just a taste of...

microsoft takes stake in facebook
Seems that Microsoft has agreed to invest $240 million into facebook to get a 1.5 percent stake in the company. This of course prolongs the deal they already had with facebook for advertisement (till 2011). This values the company at approx $15 billion!!! This came after both Google and Microsoft were trying to lobby facebook to sign a deal. I can totally understand why, facebook has a ...
