Google goes after over-optimized websites:

Looks like Matt Cutts has announced that if you’re website is TOO optimized, you could be penalized in Google’s SERPS. Combine this with the recent announcements that Google’s future in search is Semantic based, and the SEO industry looks to soon be a rapidly dying one.

What will live be in 500 years?

Here’s my theory of what life will be 500 years into the future:

We will all speak a hybrid of English, Chinese and Spanish.
People will all become a dark beige in skin colour from increased global movement and breeding.
The internet or whatever they call it in the future will become so a part of every humans life that you will not be able to live without it (we’re not too far away from that in the present).
The world will be really really hot because we’ll probably have over 20 billion people on the planet.
There will only be one global currency.
Everybody will live in cities, almost nobody will live in a rural community.
Nobody will drive cars, it will be almost 100% mass transit or self driving vehicles across the planet.
Current day religions will all be gone and forgotten.
We will hopefully have found or contacted intelligent life that exists on other planets.

Microsoft to buy RIM?

After seeing their massive drop in stock today, my prediction is that less than a year from now Microsoft will buy RIM. It makes perfect sense, they can compete directly with Apple on the consumer side, while dominating the enterprise sector, which they already do with their server products.

On top of it, if they bought out RIM, they would have instant access to a tablet device, something they’ve wanted for years. And it will tie in perfectly with their entire office suite, which it already kind of does.

WOOHOO! The Jets are coming back to Winnipeg! Seems that since the league was being all sketchy and protective about Phoenix the future owners of the Jets went to Atlanta instead.

My guess is that since Phoenix won’t be staying in Arizona long term they’ll eventually end up in Hamilton. One new team in Canada is fantastic news, but if we end up with TWO new teams in the future, that would be amazing!

So the rumors were all true, Skype was looking for a buyer and Microsoft outbid Google. Outbid is an understatement, as Google it seems only wanted to pay $4B for the company, and Steve Balmer went crazy as per usual and added on an extra $4.5B for a whopping $8.5 BILLION FREIKING DOLLARS! Insane I know…

Technologically speaking, Microsoft acquiring Skype makes perfect sense, they can tie it into all of their products including the entire office suite, Bing, and can bake it right into the Windows 7 mobile OS.

From a financial standpoint however, it’s pure insanity, and my bet is that it will have dire consequences on their bottom line both in stock price and their overall annual revenue stream. Skype hasn’t made a profit, ever. Last year it made over $800 million in revenue, but revenue doesn’t mean squat, so what did they make in profit? -$7 million, yep negative profit. Granted Amazon.com didn’t make money for years, and now they’re making a lot, but I think this is a completely different scenerio.

Microsoft did need to create another online revenue stream, as all they have is Bing. Sure they also have the Xbox network, Office 365, and a slew of other online offerings, but they all make very low amounts of profit or lose money. Many of the pundits will say that Microsoft is just investing in these(not loosing money), and in the long term they will come out on top. I disagree, with all of the competition out there on all fronts I feel that Microsoft is a dying company stuck in the past, and once their large stockpile of cash start running out they will finally realize that Steve Balmer has no clue what he’s doing and the stockholder will abandon ship.
